National Play dough day

What do you do on a Saturday when the little one is sick? You find mommy's post it flags and use them for whiskers. That is what you do. No, maybe you....

You make play dough birthday cakes. We have a bowl of colorful shape buttons and small flowers that the kids like to use to make cakes. This week we also added a box of birthday candles. If you don't want your kids to use candles you can always cut pipe cleaners into smaller pieces or use colored toothpicks. And, by the way, Happy National Play Dough Day!!!
Oh, and the kittens used my post it markers to make whiskers. I love their imaginations.

A brantley story

Wednesday night as I was putting my kids to bed I was griping at Charlie (as usual). "Charlie your dirty clothes belong in the hamper not on your floor." I go into B's room to tuck him in and he is pulling his laundry out of his hamper and throwing it on the floor. He is laughing hysterically. "Mommy, clothes on floor." I am sure that I will find this display of humor great one day. That night I did not find it funny.

The next layout was our testimony. Mine is long. "I have always thought that a testimony was more than the moment when I accepted Christ. My testimony starts before I was born: God’s hand has always been in my life. I was born to an unwed teenage mother. Her parents were strong Christian people. My dad (at the time of my birth) was an alcoholic. He says he was on the downward swoop of getting into the bottom of a bottle. I was blessed enough to have an amazing mom. She is one of the bravest and strongest women I have ever met. When I was 4 months old she left me with my grandparents because she did not feel that I was safe wi

th her. She went to Oklahoma for a while trying to make a better life for us with the intentions of coming back for me. She did somewhere b/w 3 and 4 (I think). When I was four we moved with my Uncle Bobby to Little Rock. My mom met John. They had my sister and were pregnant with my brother when they got married. John adopted me. I remember telling the Judge when I was six that this was my daddy and he loved me. J

ohn was very convincing. In the middle of 2nd grade we moved with John to Japan. He was in the Air Force. While in Japan John showed his true colors. He was an alcoholic and a drug addict (marijuana). He became to me very emotionally abusive. He always compared me to my sister. Everything anyone did was my fault (and yes, I had a few of those myself. I was not perfect). I spent most of my time grounded. I was grounded to the yard. I could watch everyone play but not join in. I was grounded to the house. I could not go outside. I was grounded to my room. Isolated. I was grounded to my bed. This was the one that I HATED. I had to sit on my bed perfectly still for hours! I could only get up to go to the bathroom once an hour. I could only leave my roo

m to go the bathroom or eat and then it was right back there. I couldn’t lay down. He repeatedly told me that my sister and brother were better. Nothing I did was ever good enough. My mother was great. She did her very best in the situation and got us out of it as soon as she could safely. At nine, the abuse was the worst. It wasn't’ physical No broken bones, no bruises. One of the Baptist churches on base had a bus ministry and I was attended their Awana’s program. I was saved January 19, 1987 in the middle of a basketball court just after game time. So there is my testimony right? Not in the least. God had a plan. When we returned to the states I was a different person. This person was shy. This person never felt like she fit in. This person began her struggle with depression and loneliness. At 11 my parents decided to get divorced. This was a tough time b/c I had to go to John’s for visitation. During this time he and a distant cousin had me convinced that my mother “abandoned me” when I was a baby. John gave me just enough of the truth that I had no idea who to believe. Do I believe John who use to spank me when he thought I lied or do I believe my mother who says “You have to make your own decision. I can’t tell you what to believe?” It was very difficult. It was not until I began working on the album before I learned more of the truth concerning this “abandonment” (And, no she did not). God has a plan.

“ 11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you," de

clares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile."” Jeremiah 29:11-14

And so, his plan continued. When I was 12, a distant cousin of my mothers (Joan) was in the hospital in Springfield, Mo. My aunt Brenda (Uncle Stan’s wife--Stan is Doug’s brother) was a nurse and noticed that she was from Harrison, Ar and that her last name was the same as my mom’s (when she was with my dad). Brenda asked if she knew Cathy (my mom). Through this, I met Brenda and Stan and was shown a few pictures from times before I remember that I knew some of my Dad’s family. When I was 13 the school hosted a father daughter dance. Papa said he would go with me but I just wanted to go with my dad. I wrote a letter to Brenda basically asking how someone could have a daughter somewhere out there and not even care. She in time gave it to my dad. After some time he contacted my mom. (This is another story)...Now, I have two dad’s. What do I do. During this time in my life I tried out for Cheerleading lost, won, lost again. I began a spiral of depression that was deep. By 15, I was at a crossroads. I felt that I just couldn’t handle life. I sat in my bedroom with three things in front of me...mom’s migraine pills, grandpa’s hand gun and a telephone. I remember telling my mother over and over that she was crazy for keeping me. I had ruined her life. I remember crying out to God. I just can’t handle the loneliness. I can’t handle feeling alone and unwanted. I couldn’t handle the teasing at school. I just wanted it to end. “Call your Aunt Sharon.” I can’t call my Aunt Sharon, it’s 3 am, I am not allowed to call long distance. I don’t want to wake her... “Call her.” So I called. She told me that she would take care of everything and that I was to go to bed and she would call me in the morning. I went to bed. She called in the morning. She told me to go to school and we would talk in the afternoon. I went to school. My mom came sometime that morning a

nd checked me out for the day. Sherry had saved my life. She called mom. Mom got me into a Christian counselor and I made it through high school. Through the years I have battled depression. There have been some good years and some dark years. And yet the same is true. God is forever faithful. HE has always been there. Through everything. I have never been at t

hat point again. To this day, I know he is with me.

In college, I was given a poem that makes me understand the loneliness a little better.

“I made her a little more lonesome than she would like to be... Only because I need for her to learn and depend on Me. I know her heart. I know that if I had not made her like this, She would go her own chosen way And forget Me...her Creator.

Every step in my life I have felt God with me. I have felt his provision. I have felt his protection. I have heard his voice. Sometime that voice was in words. Sometimes his voice was in events. Sometimes his voice was through the wisdom of others. Sometimes his voice was through his word but ALL the time I have felt him with me. Even when I was in the depths of depression I knew without a doubt that he was right there with me. I knew that his plan was so much greater than mine could ever be. Even now, I feel that God has something Great that he is doing through me. I have no idea what it is, or if I will ever know but he has a plan for me. He has always had a plan for me. "

Bricktown, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

I love to just do crazy things with my kids. Saturday was the perfect time to do this. I LOVE scavenger hunts and walking, and I LOVE Bricktown. Dusty on the other hand does not like any of these things. He had to work this weekend. We did not have anything special planned because he was at work, so the kids and I went to Bricktown with a clip board and a camera. We had the BEST time! Here is our list of thing to find... a boat, a buffalo, a bridge, a horse, a statue, a baseball player, Sonic, a bench, a trolley, a waterfall, a fountain, and guitar. We have added a few things to our list for next time: a person with a camera, a duck, a pigeon, and animal prints. We rode the trolley (which is free now). We rode the blue line. The kids just had the best time. It was a great day. We ate dinner at Sonic.

Brantley Birthday

I am feeling really guilty that it took me this long to post this...I really do love you B.
Happy birthday little guy! He had a great day. He woke up to presents... New books, a tool set, and baseball glove. He is so funny. He throws the ball with his glove and catches it with his hand. Then, Dusty took him to Bass Pro and the Route 66 park. He had a great day. I can't believe that 2 years have passed.

The Power of God

I struggle with abandonment issues and depression. I struggle with feeling unworthy and not "good" enough. These are things that have been battles for years upon years. But "THIS" time it has been different. I have been a believer since Jan 19, 1987. I was 9 years old sitting on a basketball court in the middle of a church gym on Yokota Air Force in Japan when I accepted Christ. (Praise God for the Awana program) And yet, even being a believer I have struggled with depression. I have struggled with worthlessness and loneliness. The devil has been working on me. I have felt like that kid in the lunch room who doesn't know where to sit at the lunch table during faculty meetings (really I am 33 I need to get over this). I have felt unwanted with people won't accept my "friend" request on facebook--again, I am 33 I need to get over this. I have felt left out when friends have told others things and not me--I am 33. I need to get over this. I have felt friendless b/c I could not come up with a person that I would call if some crisis hit. I have felt friendless when friends won't call or email back or cancel on me b/c of the busyness of life. I have felt lonely when I overhear friends talking about getting together and not getting an invitation as well. But this time, it was different. This time the lonelier I felt the more I turned to God. The more I sang up with the radio (KLove). The more I read my bible. The more I prayed. The more I talked with my kids about his faithfulness, his love, his provision. And yet, the loneliness grew to the point that I just did not know where to turn or what to do...And the God who has been there all along took over. He showed himself. He showed his true faithfulness. The faithfulness that has kept me alive. Two weeks ago my Faith Sisters assignment was my Testimony. I don't know that I have ever given my testimony. I have never written it down. So I have been working on it, (still not finished). I have a layout and a place for my journaling but I have not finished that part. During this time my mother-in-law offered to take the kids for a weekend. I had nothing to do. I did what I always do when I have the opportunity to scrapbook. I sent an e-mail (facebook) to my friends that scrapbook and invited them over. Come scrapbook or come do what ever just come.
I had three friends show up. The secretary at my school, the parent of an old student, and my college roommate (I had a few but she is always the one that I consider my roommate from college). And throughout the night I felt God's comfort. I felt his provision. At the end of the night, when it was just Leslee and I we talked. We laughed. We cried. We prayed. And, I felt loneliness no more. I felt the Power of MY God. God put me with this amazing women 15 years ago. We lived together less than 2 years and yet, she is one of my very best friends. We do not speak as often as I would like. And yet, when we do... I think the thing I miss most about living with her was our Sunday night prayer sessions. (And, she is the only one that understands that I do not like to talk to ANYONE first thing in the morning.)
And then, as if last night was not enough of God's power and faithfulness, this morning in Church he gave even more confirmation. The worship music was just that...my time to lift God up and to worship him. We are studying the book of Jeremiah (one of my favorite books). Two verses jumped out at me. Jeremiah 42:3 "So pray that the LORD your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do." This spoke volumes of confirmation to me about what I have been doing all summer and what I will continue to do. Pray to MY God that He will show me where to go and what to do. And the second Jeremiah 42:10-12 "If you will stay in Judah, I will build you up and not tear you down. I will plant you and not pull you up, because I sad about the disaster I brought on you. Now you fear the king of Babylon but don't be afraid of him. Don't be afraid of him, says the Lord, because I am with you. I will save you and rescue you from his power. I will be kind to you, and he will also treat you with mercy and let you stay in your land ." To me: Amy, if you will stay in the WORD, I will build you up & not tear you down. I am sad about the disaster (abandonment issues, depression, loneliness, self worth issues) I brought on you. Now you fear the (fill in anyone of those which all equal the devil) but don't be afraid of him. DON'T BE AFRIAD of him. I AM WITH YOU. I WILL rescue you.
And, as if this was not enough to show his faithfulness a friend followed me out of the church building to check on me to make sure that I was okay. I sure I must look a mess. I feel like I have cried all day b/c of my overwhelming sense that God is with me and he is faithful. Praise YE the LORD.

Faith Sisters

I am so behind with my DT work. I am so glad to be a part of this Design Team but very frustrated with myself that I have not taken the time to scrapbook the way I really want to.
This week's topic was Job/Career. I thought this would be perfect. I need to do about 6 more layouts. One for each year of students..
